New Valley Church began with a deep desire to see lives changed by God's grace. It began with a hunger to see people who were far from God come to know him, and to see people who know him be so moved by the gospel (good news) that they grow in their love for God and their neighbor.
Vision: Authentic Community | Gospel Growth | Kingdom Mission
Authentic Community
The good news of the gospel frees us from being self-righteous, judgmental, and pretense. Because our acceptance with God is not rooted in what we have done for him, but in what he has done for us through Christ, we don’t have to pretend to be someone we are not.
Gospel Growth
As you grow in your understanding of the Gospel, you increasingly see two things simultaneously - God is holy and you are sinful. Without the scope of the cross increasing to cover the widening gap between those two realities, you will be motivated to cover it yourself by either pride on the one hand, or despair on the other. The gospel compels us to enter community with a willingness and intention to grow.
In Luke 7:36-50 Jesus was having a meal at a religious leader's house (a Pharisee) when a "woman of the city" came in (a prostitute). The religious people were offended, but Jesus said this to them (Luke 7:47): "Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little.” If you see yourself as only having a little sin in your life, then you will also have "a little" love for God and others. But, when you come to realize how great your debt is/was between you and God, you then have "much" love for God and others.
Kingdom Mission
The gospel is not only for the individual believer’s benefit but also for the sake of the nations and our neighbors. We pursue authentic community and gospel growth so that we can fulfill the great commission to make and mature disciples of Jesus. The gospel reorients us to live outwardly in order to share the good news in word and deed.
Mission
Mission: Making and maturing disciples of Jesus Christ.
In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus’ final words to his followers was a call to make and mature disciples:
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
That is our mission. We strive to consistently see people move from disbelieving to seeking, and from seeking to following. We also have a passion to see people grow in the gospel (maturity). The message of Jesus transforms lives.
- A healthy church will be on mission (make disciples).
- A healthy church will be about maturity (mature disciples - "teach them to observe all that I have commanded").
